Insight will be a visual arts project based in Spalding (and surrounding areas) in Lincolnshire. The project will consist of a two-week long exhibition, taking place in a remarkable disused building, and encompassing what we believe is some of the most impressive art in the country.

Along with this, Insight will provide 10 visual arts education workshops, engaging participants of all ages. The exhibition space and work to be exhibited will be used as a stimulus for the education, and participants will visit the exhibition as part of the education package.

The education workshops will take place between Monday 8th September and Friday 26th September 2008 within primary, and secondary schools around South Lincolnshire. Adult workshops will take place in other selected venues around the region.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Monday 6th October and Wednesday 22nd October 2008 (which also happens to be the time of Spalding’s Annual Pumpkin Parade – attracting over 10,000 visitors to the area).

The idea behind the project is to engage a number of groups within Lincolnshire – to provide opportunities for the education, interaction, enjoyment and discussion of contemporary visual art, in an area where the ability to access these opportunities is very limited.

Along with this, we aim to connect with groups from outside of the area, particularly artists and arts professionals – highlighting the creative prospects that rural areas have to offer.

The overall goal in the short-term for the Insight project is to provide exciting opportunities for artists, participants, and the organisers in the creation of a high quality exhibition and education programme. In the long term, we hope to increase the awareness and autonomous participation and enjoyment of visual arts in Lincolnshire, and to create a culturally rich atmosphere with active discussion and interaction at its heart.

Through this project we also aim to develop our own abilities as artists, teachers and project organisers in order to achieve long-term personal goals in the artistic sphere.

This project is important to us as an organisation, as it has been developed through our own personal beliefs and values with regard to the outstanding benefits that art can have on a progressive and enjoyable culture. It also allows us to develop these values and skills through the creation of innovative opportunities for artists, participants and ourselves.

We believe that this project will have benefits for all that are involved, especially in the understanding, appreciation and participation of art, both during and after the project.
